Photographer in Abingdon
Abingdon calls itself Britain's oldest continuously inhabited town, and it photographs like it: abbey ruins, almshouses, a church spire mirrored in the Thames. For portraits and small weddings it offers something few places can, centuries of backdrop inside a ten-minute stroll.
My Abingdon sessions tend to wander: start in the Abbey Gardens, drift to the river as the light lowers, finish on the wharf as the swans come in expecting to be fed. An hour is enough to come home with a set that looks like a heritage film.
Where we could shoot
Favourite spots around Abingdon
Abbey Gardens
Ruined arches, specimen trees and quiet lawns in the middle of town. Dappled light here is gorgeous for portraits from mid-afternoon onwards.
St Helen's Wharf
The postcard of Abingdon: the church, the almshouses and the river in one frame. At golden hour the whole wharf turns amber, and it is hard to take a bad photograph.
Albert Park
Victorian parkland with broad avenues and a proper bandstand feel. A strong choice for larger family groups and generational photographs.
